This degree is an extension of 利记sbo’s leadership in undergraduate computer science education, which has included the latest advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence. 利记sbo has been world champion of the self-driving car division of the defense industry’s Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition for six straight years, demonstrating mastery of integrating sensors, controls, and software in a real-world computer science application that is at the forefront of today’s mobility industry. And 利记sbo's Computer Science Robotics Labs and Industry 4.0 Laboratory are interdisciplinary showplaces combining computing, intelligent robotics, and software development in an automated workplace, smart healthcare facilities, and research environment for emerging technologies of tomorrow.

Minimum requirements for admission to the program are: 

  • A BS or higher degree in Computer Science or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited program or international equivalent
  • A minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have demonstrated an aptitude for high-level research through submission of resume, publications, portfolios, and/or through on-site or online interviews
  • Have met university requirements (according to 利记sbo PhD Policy and Procedures – 01) for demonstration of English proficiency (international students)
  • GRE is optional

Credit Hour Requirement and Coursework

  • Students entering with a Master of Science degree in computer science must complete a minimum of 48 credit hours of additional graduate work to earn the doctorate. Of those 48 credit hours at least 42 must be dissertation research, with an additional 6 credits of advanced coursework
  • Students entering with a bachelor’s degree must complete at least 66 credit hours of graduate work beyond their baccalaureate degree: at least 24 credit hours of coursework and 42 credit hours of dissertation research

Qualifying Exam

  • Required to demonstrate their aptitude and mastery of the fundamentals in computer science, including applied mathematics, by passing a written (and possibly oral in addition) Qualifying Examination
  • To be administered not less than once per year and will occur after the student completes their preliminary coursework.  Upon successfully passing the Qualifying Exam, the student is admitted to candidacy for a PhD degree

Assistantship for Full-time PhD Students

  • Tuition Scholarships 
  • $25,000 stipend per year
